Hardway Sea Defence and Public Slipway – Concrete Repairs

Coastal flood and erosion defence repair works will start along Hardway sea defence and public slipway week commencing 17th September 2018 and are expected to take approximately 2 weeks to complete.

Where is this happening?

There are several areas of damage located along the sea defence, as well as to the adjacent slipway.

Why is this happening?

There are several areas of damaged or missing sections from the sea defence. Repair work is required to make it safe and to reduce the risk of further damage to the structure. This primary coastal defence protects recreational land, highways infrastructure and properties from flooding and erosion.

Repair work is also required to the surface of the adjoining public slipway, where the cracked and loose concrete slabs are presenting safety concerns. The works are to be funded by Gosport Borough Council and supervised by the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership.

What happens next?

Norse Commercial Services Ltd. has been appointed by Gosport Borough Council to undertake the repairs, with a start date of Monday 17th September 2018, and works expected to take two weeks to complete.

Works will only take place during daylight hours 0700-1900, Monday-Friday.

Access during the works

The public slipway will remain closed for one week whilst the repair works are undertaken. The nearest alternative slipway is Coldharbour public slipway.

The public car park and wide footpath to the rear of the sea defence will remain open during the work. It is important to note however, that the majority of the work will be taking place from the footpath and therefore the width of the footpath will be temporarily restricted. The contractor will install appropriate signs and barrier fencing to inform the public and keep everyone safe.
