How have the public been involved?

Key stakeholder workshops were held during October 2013 where stakeholders from a broad range of backgrounds were invited to attend. These included local resident associations, sailing clubs, angling clubs, local businesses and lobby groups. The main part of the workshop involved a series of structured and facilitated map based exercises. These were undertaken in order to gain information from attendees and to improve the projects understanding of their aspirations for the Gosport and Fareham shoreline. The workshop focused on key topics including coastal defence, recreation and access and opportunities and issues and drew out a host of useful information which, where relevant, will feed in to the development of coastal management options.

Public Consultation on the Strategy and its proposals ran for period of 3 months from 01st September to 01st December 2014.

Nearly 400 people attended one of the drop-in events held at Ferneham Hall, Gosport Discovery Centre, Hill Head Sailing Club and Warsash Sailing Club, representing a wide spread of communities across the Strategy area. The ESCP would like to thank everyone who attended and shared their valued opinions with them.

91% of those who responded using the questionnaire are in support of the Strategy recommendations being taken forward and feedback received during the exhibitions was extremely positive. The ESCP hope, through the engagement process, that they have not only gained support for the Strategy but have also raised the profile of coastal flood and erosion risk in Gosport and Fareham.
