Background to River Hamble to Portchester Strategy
We have developed draft proposals to reduce the risk of coastal flooding and erosion to the Fareham and Gosport coastline over the next 100 years. The Coastal Strategy covers the area from Burridge, on the east bank of the River Hamble, to Portchester.
Public Consultation Events
The Strategy has now finished a 3 month period of public consultation. As part of this, we held four very successful drop-in events across the Fareham and Gosport area in early September.
These took place at Ferneham Hall, Gosport Discovery Centre, Hill Head Sailing Club and Warsash Sailing Club. Nearly 400 people attended, representing a wide spread of locations across the Strategy area.
The exhibitions outlined the development of the strategy through a series of posters with the project team on hand to take any questions or guide attendees through the available material. These included information on climate change and sea level rise, the present and future flood risk across the Strategy area and the details of each of the proposed local management options.
Visitors were invited to share their comments by filling out a questionnaire. Each person was also given a booklet summarising the key information about the Strategy. Free tea and coffee was also available at each event.
The events revealed a strong interest and support amongst locals for reducing the risk to flooding and erosion across the area. A big thank you goes to all who attended.
