The ESCP in partnership with the Environment Agency have now successfully completed erosion protection works to the bank of the Wallington River, Fareham.
The 20m long, 3m high gabion basket retaining wall ties in with a similar structure upstream and was required in order to prevent the loss of a footpath and damage to a gas pipe in the area. It also ensures the Council depot remains protected.
The works were delivered by Balfour Beatty with the total cost approximately ~£100k.
Works were considerate to the environment and where vegetation was removed it has now been replaced through the colonisation of the baskets by plant species which were seeded on completion.
The footpath has now been reopened and normal service resumes in the area.
