Coastal Environmental Engineer/ Coastal Environmental Project Engineer

Due to recent team growth, and an increasing programme of Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) works, we are seeking two individuals to join the busy Coastal Policy, Strategy and Environment Team. 

The roles will involve the preparation of Planning and Marine Licence Applications and the production of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including Habitat Regulations Assessments and Water Framework Directive Assessments. As part of the EIA process, you will be required to support the environment team in the assessment of the impacts of FCERM schemes on the natural, built and human environment. 

We are looking for applicants who have a passion for the coastal environment, understanding the careful balance between this and the need for FCERM. We are seeking applicants at both the start of their careers and those with experience of managing complex projects. For one of the positions we are specifically seeking an individual with a heritage / archaeology background, given the significant historic importance of our coastline. 

You will require a degree in an environmental / engineering / coastal management related discipline. You will be enthusiastic, environmentally aware and have confidence in your ability to find solutions to problems. Familiarity with computer software applications, including GIS and CAD would be an advantage.

Coastal Team Leader Operations & Coastal Team Leader Policy X 2 posts

The demand for our services is growing and the ESCP has recently restructured and is advertising for two Team Leader Positions. These will provide the opportunity to lead, motivate, develop and manage one of the Teams on a wide range of initiatives within the Service. 

The successful candidates will lead one of the following Teams:

  • Operations - Asset Management Team 
  • Policy - Feasibility, Option Appraisal & Funding Team
Operations – Asset Team 
This exciting role sits within the Asset Management Team at the ESCP. 

We are looking for candidates with experience of leading and developing teams in Coastal Asset Management. The aim of the asset management team to is maintain the life of the assets and ensure the appropriate level of protection is sustained. 
Examples of some recent maintenance works undertaken are: 
  • Annual shingle recycling and dredging at Hayling Island. 
  • Replacement of timbers on groynes and revetments. 
  • Concrete repairs to seawalls. 
  • Re-pointing to historic masonry seawalls. 
  • Construction of permeable concrete revetments. 
Feasibility, Option Appraisal & Funding Team 
This exciting role sits within the Policy, Strategy & Environment team at the ESCP. 
 
We are looking for candidates with experience of leading and developing teams in this field, project managing Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) strategies and schemes and who have understanding and experience of the Defra and Environment Agency funding and approvals process. 

Existing FCERM schemes being progressed within this team include the development of coastal defence options for; the shoreline at Portchester to Paulsgrove in Fareham, the shoreline at Forton, Seafield and Alverstoke in Gosport, and at Langstone in Havant.
 
 
For both roles we are looking for suitable applicants who can lead, motivate, develop and manage a Team. Provide technical advice, support, set standards, prioritize and organize the effective distribution of work within the Team ensuring that individuals are focused in delivering a high quality service. You will require excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with a wide range of people at various levels. You will also need to be enthusiastic, environmentally aware and have confidence in your ability to find solutions to problems.
