Beach recycling works are being carried out along the south coast of Hayling Island. The works will build up the beach to its design profile, ensuring it is at a healthy level ready for the winter. This will help to provide flood risk management to residents in the area.
7600m3 of material will be imported and recycled during the works. The cost of the project is in the region of £100,000, which is 100% grant funded by Defra through Flood Defence Grant in Aid. The contact has been awarded to Les Searle Plant Hire and Sales Ltd.
Work began on 4th December and are due to finish on Friday 19th December.
The beach recycling is part of the 5 year ongoing Beach Management Plan for Hayling Island. The next works are expected to be in early Spring 2015. We will continue to monitor the coastline throughout the winter.
